Anne Fine (UK Children’s
Laureate 2001–2003) pointed out that “if an adult writer pens
a children’s book, everyone says ‘oh, how marvelous – literature!’,
but if a children’s writer comes up with an adult book they look as
if they’ve got a nasty smell under their nose.” Many, many people assume
that it’s easy to write a children’s book. Here are some people who
will tell you otherwise, knowing what a challenge it is to write with
fewer words, more creative concepts, and for the most critical readership
of all – kids.
