Heather has been a graphic designer/ illustrator for over 24 years. She graduated from Auckland Technical Institute in 1985 with a Diploma in Graphic Design and worked for many years in several small design studios and printing companies, as a graphic designer. She has designed and illustrated six stamp issues for New Zealand Post:- Wildflowers, 1990 Commonwealth Games, Hector's Dolphin, the Rugby League Centenary, the $20 Definitive Stamp and the 2010 Christmas Stamps for Niue. Heather has attended art classes at Mairangi Arts Centre, on Auckland's North Shore, to learn more about the different art mediums, including - acrylic, pastel, watercolour , water-based oils and life drawing. "The tutors were great, sharing their artist knowledge and experience. If you have ever seen a professional artist paint and the way they place paint on a painting, you will see their knowledge, experience, confidence and intent with every brush stroke." Heather now has a greater understanding of tonal value, design, colour, complimentary colours, the coloured greys and how to employ these, this shows in her illustration work. She has also spent time learning the craft of writing - with the hope of one day writing and illustrating her own stories. Draw New Zealand Birds - Have you ever wanted to draw New Zealand birds? Draw New Zealand Birds shows a step-by-step approach to drawing. With a few materials, drawing skills and techniques, you can draw your own images of these unique birds. Rangitoto - tells the dramatic story of Auckland's most striking icon – from its volcanic birth to how the island's guardians are saving it today.
