Jenni was born in London, England,
and emigrated with her family when she was 7 years old. She lived on the
North Shore, until her family went back to England in 1964 for two years
as her father was with the RNZ Navy. They returned to the North Shore in
1967 and she completed her education at Rangitoto College. Jenni married and had two children, Jason and Amanda, and dabbled with writing during that time. She went to Hamilton Teacher's College, and University of Waikato, earning a Bachelor of Education. Jenni taught primary for two years and then decided to train at Auckland College of Education in Education of Deaf Children. She worked from Kelston School for Deaf Children for 10 years as a classroom teacher and an itinerant teacher, teaching from kindergarten to Year 13. Around this time, Jenni's first grandchild, Jessica was born. When Jessica went to live in Florida with Jenni's son and his wife, she started writing in earnest, as a way to keep in touch. Jessica is now 11 years old, and has already read two of Jenni's novels in their early draft form. Jessica is coming back to New Zealand to live, just as the first novel, 'Losing William' is being published. 'Losing William' is the first in a series of stories about Keri and her friends. Jenni now has two more granddaughters to incorporate into her stories. Jenni is now living in Matakana on a lifestyle property with her husband Phil, her dog Ben and her cat, Jimi.
Jenni loves to read her stories to children, and encourages them to see the stories in their own lives. She can give writing workshops and can prepare lesson plans to assist teachers in their classroom programmes. Jenni’s books can be available
for purchase through the school on the day of the
talk, with a percentage of sales going to the school
library. |
